Compatibility¶
Story Engine works with Game Creator 2 Core inside Unity. Choose a compatible set of versions before importing it into a project you rely on.
Release targets¶
The intended release targets are Unity 6.3 LTS and supported Unity 6.5 or newer releases, with Game Creator Core 2.19.61 or newer from an official upload compatible with that Editor.
A target is not a promise that every patch, platform or future package combination has been tested.
Recorded checks for 1.0.0-rc.2¶
The package's release evidence records these checks on 2 October 2026:
| Unity Editor | Game Creator Core | URP | Verified player |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6000.3.22f1, Unity 6.3 LTS | 2.19.61, compatible official source | 17.3.0 | macOS, IL2CPP, High managed stripping |
| 6000.6.4f1, Unity 6.6 | 2.19.61, compatible official source | 17.6.0 | macOS, Mono |
Both combinations passed clean package import, 78 Edit Mode checks and 28 Play Mode checks, plus player checks with all four example scenes. These are recorded release checks, not new Unity tests performed while writing this website.
Windows, mobile, WebGL and other Unity or Core combinations were not verified in that release pass. Test the platform you plan to ship.
Rendering and examples¶
The story-selection engine does not depend on a rendering pipeline. The included rendered examples use URP. Built-in and HDRP versions of those examples are not supplied.
The examples also use Unity UI, TextMeshPro, Input System and AI Navigation. The installation guide lists the required Game Creator content packs.
Optional Game Creator modules¶
Your own Rules can use compatible conditions and instructions from the modules installed in your project. A Rule that uses an Inventory instruction still needs the appropriate Inventory module. Story Engine does not provide those modules or their licenses.
The included Core and Adventure examples do not require optional paid modules.
ActionFlow 2¶
ActionFlow 2 is optional. Story Engine keeps working through its Rule Editor and Inspector when ActionFlow is absent.
For graph authoring, use an ActionFlow adapter compatible with Story Engine's StorySystem types and integration API version 5. See Work with ActionFlow 2.
Before upgrading¶
Back up the project and representative saves. Import the official Core upload for your Editor, let Unity compile, then check your scenes and a player build. Retain Rules/link.xml for stripped IL2CPP builds.
