Crossroads Outpost¶

This scene turns Rules into a small world puzzle. Fifteen Rules connect the gate, the hearth and the shrine. A chosen response can open a gate, light braziers, grant an offering or change your standing with the outpost.
Try the consequence chain¶
- Visit the Hearth without an offering. A response gives you something to take to the shrine.
- Visit the Shrine with that offering. The response consumes it and raises your favor to Honored.
- Return to the Gate during the day. Your new standing can open the way.
At night, try the hearth's brazier-lighting response. This example does not define a night-time gate-opening Rule.
Change the situation¶
The World-State Sandbox lets you change favor, weather, world mode and several other facts. Use its Run gate Story Director button to compare results without walking back to the gate every time.
Set WorldMode to Siege. The global Siege Lockdown Rule has Critical priority and can seal the gate even when a local Rule would otherwise welcome you.
Read the categories¶
The physical gate uses category Greeting. The other two use Hearth and Shrine. Keep these names aligned when editing Director requests.
The Rules read shared world facts, change them through instructions, and let later requests respond to the new situation. The Director does not keep running automatically when a fact changes.
Add a new circumstance¶
Try adding one response for a particular combination of weather and favor. Make only the facts it truly needs mandatory.
The scene's Coverage HUD shows how many possible situations its variables describe. It does not mean that a conventional design needs one branch for every combination. A useful comparison is how much existing content you must touch to add your new circumstance.
